Colleen Miller

Registered Social worker, MSW

Colleen Miller has joined NuVista Mental Health in Calgary after working 25 years as a social worker in Ontario, Alberta and England. As a seasoned professional, she gained her knowledge and honed her skills while working in government services for children and families, mental health and addictions, public health, primary health care; and a community family violence agency. Colleen believes that therapy can help establish a meaningful, satisfying and quality-enriched life.

Experience

Colleen acquired her degrees – BA, HBSW, and MSW – from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario. She gained her practice wisdom from a life-long process of personal growth and years of professional development. As a therapist, Colleen can establish rapport and build trusting relationships with clients in-person, over the phone and through online contact. She works with adults of all ages who are experiencing psychological distress or living without meaning and purpose. She is dedicated to healing, inspiring hopefulness, and collaborating with clients. Colleen embraces an eclectic, integrated orientation to talk therapy that is informed by evidence-based modalities within a non-judgmental and accepting space where self-determination and autonomy are respected. She draws from a range of tools and techniques to increase the likelihood of effective treatment by tailoring therapeutic interventions to each person’s unique circumstances, strengths and needs. She is skillful at addressing unhelpful thoughts, feelings and behaviours related to past or current events. Her therapeutic expertise includes the ability to listen, learn and tailor treatment that resonates with each client. Colleen is a cheerleader for activating personal strengths as clients take steps toward change. She is also an advocate for client participation in a social support network that is nurturing and encouraging.
