Laura Rodriguez is a Clinical Social Worker who specializes perinatal wellness. Laura has a client centred, strength-based, collaborative approach to provide a welcoming space for validation and support for her clients. She offers in person or virtual services and encourages clients to discuss any barriers for accessing support.

As part of the True North team, she can focus on her passion of supporting clients during their family-building journey. Clients can access support for mood issues surrounding pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum and parenting. This also includes supporting clients through challenges with infertility, and miscarriage and loss. Laura uses therapeutic modalities tailored for each client. This may include elements of (ACT) Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotional Focused Therapy (EFT) and mindfulness to improve individuals’ and their families’ quality of life. For client’s that require trauma therapy, Laura is a certified Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) clinician.

Professional & Academic Background

Laura graduated from Renison College with a Masters of Social Work in 2017 and has been practicing with True North since 2021. Her social work career has always been tailored to the healthcare field. She has specialized training from Postpartum Support International and has completed her Perinatal Mental Health Certification.

This work is important to Laura because she believes with compassionate and skilled providers and community resources her clients can have a better quality of life. Her work in community and the hospital provide her with knowledge about access to systems and the importance of trauma informed care. She is also an advocate for informed choices, health equity and strives to decrease stigma around mental health challenges.

Outside the Office

Laura enjoys spending time with her family and friends, making brunch on Sunday mornings and time with a good book and a weighted blanket. She believes in continuous learning and personal growth, both in profession practice and in her personal experiences.
