ADVANCED NON-INVASIVE MENTAL HEALTH CARE

rTMS Treatment at NuVista Mental Health

rTMS is a safe, evidence-based, veteran-VAC approved treatment that uses targeted magnetic stimulation to help reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety, and other mood-related concerns.

Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation for Depression and Mood Disorders

Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) is an evidence-based treatment designed to help improve mood and reduce symptoms of depression and related conditions. It is a non-invasive option that does not require medication or surgery.
At NuVista Mental Health, our team provides structured rTMS treatment in a supportive, clinical setting. Our approach is practical, personalized, and focused on helping you feel more like yourself again.

How rTMS Can Help

rTMS works by delivering targeted magnetic pulses to areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. These pulses help stimulate healthier neural activity and improve how these areas function over time. rTMS may be recommended for individuals experiencing:

  • Depression that has not responded to medication
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Other mood-related conditions

What to Expect from rTMS Treatment

rTMS is a structured, non-invasive treatment designed to fit into your routine
while supporting symptom reduction and overall well-being.

What Treatment Is Like

rTMS sessions are simple, structured, and designed to fit into your daily routine.

You sit comfortably in a chair during treatment

A device delivers gentle magnetic pulses to your scalp

You will hear a clicking sound and wear ear protection

Sessions typically last about 15 minutes

There is no downtime after treatment. Most people return to work, school, or daily activities right away.

Benefits of rTMS

rTMS is often a good option for people looking for alternatives to medication or who have not seen improvement with other treatments.

Non-invasive with no surgery required

No systemic medication side effects

Minimal disruption to your day

Well tolerated by most people

Side effects, if present, are typically mild and temporary

What to Expect

Our rTMS program follows a structured process to ensure treatment is safe, consistent, and tailored to you. You will also complete a motor threshold session to determine the right level of stimulation for your brain.

Before treatment begins, you will complete:

Intake forms, surveys, and consents through Jane

An initial psychiatric assessment

An intake with a Clinical Care Lead

A baseline qEEG brain scan to guide treatment

Treatment Options

Your psychiatrist will help determine the best approach based on your needs and schedule.

Standard Treatment

Gradual schedule over several weeks

Higher frequency at the start, tapering over time

Ongoing check-ins and progress tracking

Accelerated Treatment

Multiple sessions per day over a shorter period

More structured and intensive schedule

Designed for faster response in some cases

Insight

A message from our Medical Director

The history of mental health treatment is a hard one. For generations, doctors and scientists have laboured at it, and still it remains the leading cause of disability across much of the world.

I went into psychiatry impatient for the kind of progress that changes everything, antibiotics, vaccines, anaesthesia. There are discoveries that open a new world; after them, what it means to be alive is simply different. I believe TMS is such a discovery, for my patients, and for their families.

This is not an incremental improvement, it is a paradigm shift in how we understand and treat mental illness, and the evidence is already strong enough to act on. What’s missing is investment. Redirect even a fraction of what we spend on pharmaceuticals toward TMS, and we would change millions of lives.

As a scientist, I’ve watched moonshots stall, frontiers that promise everything and never quite open. TMS is different, and not only because it works. Depression takes our most capable people and quietly removes them from the world: the parent who can’t get out of bed, the bright student who drifts away from school, the friend who slowly disappears. Heal them, and you do more than treat an illness, you give back to the world the very people it relies on to move forward.

Imagine a world that stops losing its most courageous people, where therapy works faster and reaches deeper, where someone who has been lost for years can find themselves again. That’s the world we’re fighting for. I’m proud to develop and provide TMS, because it is central to the future of mental health, and that future is available now.

Dr. Nathan Corbett MD MSc FRCPC,

Medical Director of TMS
