Therapeutic Approach & Specialties
Gideon takes a down to earth, person centered collaborative approach to therapy, creating space where clients feel heard and supported. He works closely with people navigating depression, anxiety and substance use and other mental health challenges, often drawing on Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy(ACT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Gideon has a special interest in supporting youth and families through complex situations, bringing both clinical expertise and lived experience from hospital, community, and support settings. His style is practical and real, with a focus on building trust and working together toward meaningful change.
Professional & Academic Background
Gideon earned his master’s degree in clinical health psychology from the University of Cape Coast in Ghana in 2019, following an earlier career as a registered mental health nurse. He practiced as a clinical health psychologist for two years in Ghana, working in both hospital and private practice settings, where he supported individuals and families facing diverse mental health and substance use challenges.
After relocating to Canada in 2023, Gideon expanded his training by completing the Disability Support Services program at Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC). Since then, he has gained valuable experience working as a Continuing Care Assistant and as a support worker. His professional journey reflects a strong commitment to clinical care across hospital, community, and residential settings, and he continues to build on this foundation to support clients with compassion and evidence based practice.
Why They Chose This Work
For Gideon , this work has always been about people”” No One Is An Island. I started out as a mental health nurse, and what drew me in then is the same thing that keeps me here now ,the chance to sit with someone in their hardest moments and help them find a way forward. Over the years, I’ve seen how substance use and mental health struggles can weigh on individuals and families, and I’ve also seen the strength that comes out when people feel truly supported.
I don’t believe in one size fits all therapy. I believe in keeping things real, listening closely, and working together to figure out what makes sense for each person. Approaches like motivational interviewing, ACT, and CBT give me tools, but it’s the human connection that makes the difference.
At the heart of it, I chose this work because I want to be part of someone’s journey toward hope and resilience. Helping people see that change is possible ,even in the toughest circumstances is what keeps me going.
Outside the Office
Gideon enjoys spending time behind the camera, capturing moments through photography(memories are very important and photos don’t lie) and exploring the beauty of nature. I find balance in cooking, experimenting with new recipes, and swimming(even though not a champ), which helps me recharge both physically and mentally. I also love dressing well and have a particular appreciation for shoes, seeing style as another way to express creativity and confidence. These interests keep me grounded and energized.
