Therapeutic Approach & Areas of Practice

As a neurodivergent counsellor with ADHD, I am committed to a neuro-affirmative and LGBTQIA+ inclusive practice and to creating a space where clients can show up as their authentic selves without judgment. I am currently exploring the applications of Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS) within my practice, while drawing from relational and integrative perspectives to support clients in developing greater self-understanding, self-compassion, and connection. Above all, I hope to meet each client with warmth, openness, and respect, recognizing that therapy is not about changing who someone is, but supporting them in understanding themselves, building on their strengths, and moving toward a life that feels meaningful to them.

Professional & Academic Background

Hello and welcome! I’m Alisha, a counselling intern dedicated to supporting individuals through a compassionate, collaborative, and client-centred approach. I am currently completing my Master of Education in Counselling at Acadia University and am completing my practicum placement at True North Psychological Services in Halifax through spring 2027, under the supervision of Hilary Stephenson and Mark Baigent.

Why They Chose This Work

My approach to counselling is grounded in strengths-based, client-centred, and culturally sensitive care. I believe that clients are the experts in their own experiences and that meaningful therapeutic work begins with creating a relationship built on trust, respect, collaboration, and genuine curiosity. I have experience supporting children and youth, neurodivergent individuals, and individuals navigating anxiety, stress, self-esteem, identity, relationships, and life transitions. I am open to working with adults, teens, and youth with diverse presenting concerns within my scope of practice as an intern. I also recognize the ways that culture, family, and broader systems can shape our experiences and strive to incorporate these considerations into our work together.

Outside the Office

Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy spending time in nature, usually exploring a new hiking trail with my dog. I also enjoy dancing to live music with friends, playing volleyball, reading fantasy novels and spending time with my family!
